Ingredients

  • 2 oz mezcal
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • ¾ oz jalapeño simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • ½ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Ice
  • Salt or Tajín (for rim)
  • Lime wheel and jalapeño slice (for garnish)

Optional: 2 oz blood orange juice or pineapple juice


Instructions

  1. Rim a glass with lime juice and dip in salt or Tajín. Fill with ice.

  2. In a shaker with ice, combine 2 oz mezcal, 1 oz fresh lime juice, ¾ oz jalapeño simple syrup, and ½ oz orange liqueur.

  3. Add 2 oz blood orange or pineapple juice if using.

  4. Shake well for 10–15 seconds.

  5. Strain into the prepared glass.

  6. Garnish with a lime wheel and jalapeño slice.


Tips

  • Serranos taste even better—just be careful with the heat
  • Adjust simple syrup to taste; start with less if you’re spice-sensitive
  • For a smokier drink, use a more robust mezcal like Del Maguey Vida
